If you’re new to my blog, welcome! This is a way that I like to connect and share the things that matter most when it comes to transforming your life, business, and/or career.
If you’re a returning reader, it’s so good to be with you again. I hope you’ve created a great month since my last share.
I have a TON of tools in my toolkit, and I tend to bring a “whatever it takes” kind of spirit to support my clients and students in their transformation. What I know to be true is that if we work from as many angles as possible, we can: shift more quickly, have a more easeful experience, create changes that will last, and truly rewire the brain in the process.
Did you know your breath is your most powerful tool?
My coach/mentor, Dr. Matt Lyon, shared with me that Dr. Andrew Weil, a long time practitioner and teacher of integrative medicine, remarked that if he could only have one tool out of this toolkit, it would be his breath.
We can go without water for about 3 days before we die. Some of us can go up to 3 weeks without food until we pass, but our breath… We can only go, approximately, 5-10 minutes without breath before serious damage and/or death ensues.
Did you know that in our culture, most of us breathe shallowly, which tells our fight or flight part of the brain, the amygdala, that we are in danger? This means that MANY of us are in a state of survival more often than not. When we are here, we are using our reptilian brain and not our executive brain.
How do you think it might go if you’re committed to creating a kick ass life, biz, and/or career, but you’re stuck in the part of your brain that’s wired to survive vs. thrive?!?
Did you know that this shallow breathing we’re talking about is what creates the defensive postures our body takes on? Once we assume these protective stances, we breathe even more shallowly because our lungs have less space, which means less oxygen gets to the brain.
Are you beginning to see a pattern to the pattern?
Repetitive fear based posturing in the body, creates a shift in our neurochemistry, which is part of how these limiting mindsets get started and reinforced over time.
You really do have the power to transform your body from the inside out starting with your breath. Once you’ve created these changes in your body, you have more access to a real mindset shift!
Everything is interconnected. This is why yoga and other forms of exercise that invite us to focus on our breath are so beneficial.
When we breath, we empty out toxins in the exhale, so we really want to get deep into the crevices where the breath gets stuck and stagnant. This way, when we inhale, that fresh life force can get deep into the cells, the muscles, the tissues, etc.
If you’d like to bring more intention to your breath so you can access deeper levels of thrive across the boards, I have located a great article for beginners. Click here! It gets into a little more info about breathing that I didn’t cover, a few different types of popular ways to have more control over your breath as well as some important questions to consider about how you’re currently breathing.
Did you notice the above article was shared by the Art of Living Retreat Center where I’ll be leading my retreat November 7-10?!?
I will be leading my group through 4 yoga practices where we will be brining attention to breath and learning different breathing techniques. I will also be offering up the most supportive tips I can think of to incorporate mindful and regular breathing into your day to day. There are currently 4 spots left. Is one of them for you?!? Save your spot here!
As always, different ways you can work with me are listed below. Please, share with anyone who may appreciate anything in this newsletter. The intention is never to be “salesy”, but to give you plenty of options of ways you can be supported so you feel empowered.
For those of you who may appreciate more up close and personal connection as well as more consistency, I am very active in my Instagramand Facebook stories.
