I’ve been fired three times, and I’m divulging this information with you because if I would’ve know that I was an intrapreneur at that time, it would’ve been a very differently played game for me.
If you’re unfamiliar with intrapreneurship, an intrapreneur thinks much like an entrepreneur, but they work for a corporation or small business. They are risk takers and visionaries, but not interested in incurring the risk of being a business owner and building a biz from scratch. They are able to utilize pre-existing resources and structures as well as improving upon them to spearhead projects and such.
Relating to yourself like a cog in the wheel when you are a creative visionary is painful.
Had I know what was happening all those crappy experiences ago, I would’ve been able to be at cause for it to go a better way, but – like most – I couldn’t name it, so I didn’t know what I was even trying to shift out of.
From that place, I played the victim card really well. Everything happened to me.
Those jerky co-workers.
That short sighted leader.
I’m not getting paid enough, so that means I get to act like an ungrateful brat.
It’s not my company; it’s not my problem.
Because I was too stuck to create something new to step into, I, subconsciously and unconsciously self-sabotaged so well that I got canned 3 whole times. What can I say?!? My force is strong!
If you’re an intrapreneur and didn’t know it, now you know and knowing is half the battle! If you’re not, share with someone who needs to read this. Feeling normal in our experiences helps us keep our judgy little inner critic at bay.
Back in December, I made a 4 minute video sharing four qualities that make you essential to your employer, so you can toot your own horn. This is the stuff to leverage if you are looking for a raise, promotion, or you’d like to market yourself to a new company!
If today’s not a day to watch images on screens, here you go!
- You’re not there just for the money. You actually have aligned values. You care. You want to be there. This helps you play the game in a bigger way.
- You’re a greenhouser — you never forget ideas! You’re like an elephant. How helpful.
- You know how to pivot. This is so important! When your team is on a path that’s not working, someone needs to see this so a shift can get initiated. You’re not afraid of being the one to do this.
- You behave with authenticity and integrity. You are truly a leader who inspires others and walks the talk.
You are so much more than a cog in a wheel and once you begin relating to yourself as the visionary that you are, things will begin to open up for you. I’m so excited to begin serving you more fully this year.
